Games Master Report – July 2014

Well its been a busy month with the lead up to the Top Gun Flathead competition. This year 8 anglers put themselves up to be auctioned off and share their knowledge in a battle to take home the prize pool. The auction was held in conjunction with the Flathead Classic launch at Doug Burts Tackleworld. The store was overflowing and the energy inside was electric with anticipation of the Classic just weeks away!

The launch night provided some of the Classic sponsors the opportunity to speak about their products and their involvement in the event. It was great to see naming sponsor Great Northern Brewing represented and some of their finest product on offer for the crowd to enjoy.

Christine Hunt did an amazing job running the auction of the Top Gun anglers with just under $4000 being raised for the prize pool for the event. She whipped the crowd into a bidding frenzy never seen before!

The species of the month for inshore (best combined Flathead and Bream) was tied by David Whyte and George Sands. David landing a 36cm bream and a 64cm Flathead and George a 74cm Flathead and 26 cm bream. They will share the $100 Dougy’s voucher.

Offshore species was best Snapper was won by Scott (Sccota) Gregory, with a very healthy 57cm specimen caught during the clubs recent inaugural Snapper Classic.

Pic of the month was hotly contested, with Steve Wislon prevailing with his picture of a 6.6kg Snapper caught recently off Iluka. He was stoked with the capture which came using his flathead gear! Great effort Steve. He pocketed a $50 Dougy’s voucher for his effort. A reminder that entries for pic of t he month are emailed to [email protected] and fish can be caught anywhere.

Annual Points System

The committee has decided to revamp the current annual points system and the following is the new format:

Each month the target species will be announced and members will submit their captures based on these designated species. The person who wins that month be allocated 3 points for the win. 2nd place 2 and 3rd place with all other entries will be awarded 1 point.

For example, the target species for inshore is best combined Flathead, Whiting and Bream.

Angler 1 submits 78cm Flathead, 45cm Whiting and 35cm bream with a total of 158cm = 3 points

Angler 2 submits 60cm flathead, 40cm whiting and 30cm bream with a total of 130cm = 2 points

Angler 3 submits 60cm flathead, 35cm whiting = 95cm = 1 point

So you don’t have to catch all the species and will still receive at least 1 point for entering

The same format will be for offshore. It is hoped that this will see a closer competition and encourage more entries.

Target Species for August

Inshore – best combined 3 of any species

Offshore – best combined 3 of any species

Entries to be submitted to [email protected] Fish need to be photographed on a brag mat. You can either put a tag with the month and year on it or simply use the photo date stamp as evidence.

The club is also looking at conducting some back to grass roots fishing competitions, which we will detail more about at the next club night. This is aimed at offering more social fishing competitions which will have a strong emphasis on family participation.

Good luck to everyone fishing the Top Gun Classic tomorrow it promises to be an awesome event and I hope you all have a great month of fishing.
