Games Master Report October 2014

Hi all,

After the success of the 21st Anniversary Great Northern Brewing Flathead Classic, the interest in the final club event for the year was at an all time high. The Dash for cash Flathead event was a great success with 35 teams competing to take home cash. In the end Team Brisbane River Fishing prevailed, including a 94cm specimen that anchored the victory and the Big fish prize.

The inshore species of the month was the best 3 combined flathead length, with some fantastic entries coming in. George Sands prevailed, taking out the $100 Doug Burts Voucher with his 86,81 and 68cm length being the best. In the offshore, the windy conditions made it tough for people to get out and the reports of the target species of Cobia hard to land. Joakim Olander dropped a very healthy specimen boatside and was totally devastated seeing a hundred dollars swim away!!!! With no Cobia submitted it then reverted to the best Snapper and Steve Ward caught an absolute beauty measuring 82cm to take home the Doug Burts voucher.

The Fish of the month entries were the best for a number of months with 11 entries being submitted and the quality of pics and the fish in them was superb. It was a tight tussle in the end between Dan Hickey and his boatside Marlin shot and eventual winner Jaimee Horner and her PB flathead of 65cm. Thanks to everyone who entered and don’t forget to put your entries in prior to the January Club night for your chance to win a $50 Doug Burt Tackleworld voucher. Fish can be caught anywhere and entries submitted to [email protected]

The club has also launched a new club facebook page called Gold Coast Sport Fishing Club Fish of the Month. All entries are encouraged to be posted here prior to assist with promoting the competition. The page attracted over a 100 likes in the first couple of weeks, so go and check it out.

The Club also launched a new competition being run in conjunction with Doug Burt Tackleworld, whereby you submit a picture of any legal size fish between 23 and 150cm long to ………. by COB the Wednesday prior to the Club night. To be eligible for the prize you must have a valid receipt from Doug’s shop from that month and also be a current member of the GCSFC. At the club night a random number will be drawn and any entries with a fish of the corresponding size will win a $200 voucher from Doug Burts Tackleworld. If you are not present then you win $100. If the prize isn’t claimed then it will jackpot for the month up to a maximum of $1000 where a number will continue to be drawn until. So get into Dougs shop, he has all the details and answer any questions you might have whilst receiving expert advice from his team of staff!!

Finally to the species of the month. The inshore target is the mighty Mangrove jack, so the biggest jack caught will take the prize. Off shore you will be the best combine Mahi Mahi and Mackeral (any species). Both winners will receive a $100 voucher from Dougy’s
