2015 Mangrove Jack Comp – Results and Story

A total of 23 Teams took on the challenge of chasing one of this countries most iconic sports fish, the mighty Mangrove Jack in less than prefect conditions. The teams spread across the whole arena from the upper reaches of the Nerang  River to the northern boundary near the top end of Russell Island, trying to catch 3 jacks to present to the weighmaster and take home the 1st prize pool of $600 and a Switchbait voucher for 5 custom polo shirts.

In the end, Team Hectic, Shaun Hagan and Lynette Presnell proved that consistency can pay dividends, with their two fish of 54cm and 47cm taking out the event with just over a metre of brauling jack! It was the pairs first ever competition and to say they were stoked is an understatement. Using techniques that they’d perfected over the previous few months they caught both fish early.

        

In second place was Team Trandy, Andrew Booton and Trent Jepson. Taking home the BCF Burleigh Big Fish prize of a $500 BCF voucher with a fantastic fish measuring 56cm. Despite falling just short to take out the win, the guys were stoked with taking home the big fish prize.

This event continues to grow in stature and I’m sure next year will be bigger and better next year.
