Gold Coast Flathead Classic
The Gold Coast Flathead Classic now an iconic event on the fishing tournament calendar had humble beginnings in 1994. The popular social tournament notably only features “lucky draw” prizes and category trophies and attracts sportfishers from around the country. Historically the results have provided valuable flathead catch and growth rate data used for long term management of the species in Queensland.
Back in 1994 the concept of catch & release was new to anglers and the club pioneered the tournament format now popular to fishing tournaments held throughout Australia. Each year the comp goes from strength to strength with numbers in 2010 bumping the 400 Angler mark. All up this tournament is much more than fishing comp it is now a feature event with an excellent random prize pool, giveaways, entertainment and much more. Be sure to mark this year’s Flathead Classic on your calendar.
