Gold Coast Sport Fishing Club donates $5000 to the Carl Jocumsen Crowd Funding Campaign

Gold Coast Sport Fishing Club – Media Release 14 December 2014
Young Australian angler Carl Jocumsen has spent the past 4 years chasing his dream of qualifying for the US Bassmaster Elite series. Earlier this year, Carl realised that dream and in 2015 will be the first Australian to fish the Elite series.
Bass fishing in the US is BIG, with many anglers with career earnings in excess of a million dollars US. Carl is guaranteed a two year stint in the Elite series, but it will not come cheap. Entry fees alone in the first year will be in excess of $40,000 US and involve countless hours of travelling between tournaments and pre fishing lakes he is totally unfamiliar with.
A fundraising campaign has been established to raise funds to assist Carl with expenses associated with his first year on the circuit. A range of fantastic incentives are on offer for people who donate, based on the amount, including signed hats, rods reels and even a days fishing with Carl.
The Gold Coast Sport Fishing Club is synonymous among sports fishing anglers in South East Queensland and is highly committed to supporting and promoting sustainable fishing practices and the enjoyment of fishing. The club hosts one of the country’s biggest fishing events, the Great Northern Brewing Co Flathead Classic proudly supported by Blue Fin boats annually in October. This year’s event was the 21st anniversary and attracted over 500 competitors. They also host a number of Bream comps including the Easter Bream Classic. With a membership of close to 300 anglers, the club boasts some of Australia’s best and probably worst fisho’s, with anglers that fish from the saltwater to fresh. It is because of the success of the Flathead Classic  and the support of their sponsors that the club are in a position to support Carl.
To acknowledge Carls persistence, hard work and dedication the club have decided to support Carl by donating $5000 to his campaign. This donation is because the membership believes Carl epitomises a commitment to sports fishing ideals. The club plans to raffle off the day fishing with Carl, with one lucky angler having this opportunity next year.
In addition the club will also be hosting a Bass Classic Dash for Cash type event in conjunction with the Australian Bream Tournaments (ABT) in 2015. A portion of the entry fees of this event will also be donated to Carl to assist him with the 2016 season. The Gold Coast Sport Fishing Club sees the opportunity to not only support Carl in his endeavours but also branch out into another area of sports fishing by conducting a bass event as a good endeavor for its membership. Gamesmaster Craig Templar said  “It is an exciting venture which helps diversify the clubs profile within QLD”. The venue and date for this event will be advertised once confirmed and they hope that everyone gets behind what aims to be a one day celebration of fishing.
The club will conduct a raffle, with the major prize being a days fishing with Carl. Tickets will be sold throughout 2015. The details of the raffle are still being organised, but tickets should be available for purchase from mid January 2015 at a cost of $10 each. Details will be released through the club’s website www.goldcoastsportfishingclub.com, its facebook pages and www.abt.org.au
