The 2026 Mulloway & Cobia Classic will be held across Saturday 30 May to Sunday 31 May, to target mulloway and cobia in Queensland waters (offshore or inshore).
More than $6,000 worth of prizes up for grabs including Wilson and Shimano rods and reels, tackle bags, plus some cool random prizes including petrol vouchers!

Fishing Method - Bait or Lure. Burley allowed. Max 2 rods per angler at one time

Tournament Rules & Conditions
Event Format
The 2026 Mulloway & Cobia Classic is a two-day inshore and offshore fishing tournament targeting Mulloway and Cobia in Queensland waters.
Fishing will commence at 6am on 30 May and finish at 12.30pm on May 31. Teams are competing with the combined length of their best three fish.
1. Team Eligibility
Teams must consist of two or three anglers
Junior anglers are permitted, provided Queensland maritime regulations are followed
All anglers must be fully registered and paid entrants
Any additional persons onboard must receive prior approval from the Tournament Committee.
Assistance provided by a non-entrant may result in team disqualification.
Disqualified teams or individuals are not eligible for prizes, including random draws.
2. Offshore Safety & Vessel Requirements
boats must carry valid insurance
All vessels must comply with Queensland maritime safety requirements
Boats fishing offshore should be equipped with appropriate communication equipment (VHF/HF radio recommended)
Competitors are responsible for logging on/off where required and ensuring safe passage through the Seaway
Competitors participate entirely at their own risk and must make sensible decisions based on weather and sea conditions
3. Fishing Rules
Fishing is permitted using lures or bait
All fishing must occur in Queensland waters
All competitors must always comply with Queensland Fisheries regulations
Anglers may up to two rods at a time. Maximum four rods per two or three person team.
Anglers must personally cast, retrieve and manage their own rod and fish
4. Target Species & Scoring
Target species:
Mulloway
Cobia
Scoring format:
Teams submit their best three fish (combined across both species)
Measurements are rounded down to the nearest centimetre
In the event of a tie, the earliest recorded fish will determine the winner
5. Measuring & Photo Requirements
All fish must be photographed on the official Liquor Legends tournament brag mat.
To qualify:
Nose must be placed on zero
Tail must be clearly visible
Tournament token/tag must appear in every photo
Fish must be clearly measurable and photographed flat
All fish must comply with Queensland legal size limits
6. Fish Submission Process
Fish photos must be submitted via Gold Coast Sportfishing Club Community Facebook Page
At the close of fishing, teams must submit their best three fish via text message to the Gamesmaster for verification (details provided at briefing).
All submissions must be received by 1pm on the final day.
Late submissions may not be accepted.
7. Tournament Boundaries
Fishing is permitted in Queensland waters only
All government gazetted closed areas and Marine Park Green Zones must be obeyed
Competitors are responsible for understanding all applicable fishing regulations and marine boundaries
8. On Water Etiquette
All team members must fish from the same boat
Multiple teams may fish from one vessel
Maintain a respectful distance from other competitors
Do not interfere with another team’s drift, anchor position or fishing activity
Good sportsmanship is expected at all times
9. Equipment & Handling Rules
All line classes and reel types are permitted
Gaff use must comply with legal and responsible fish handling practices
Fish-friendly handling is strongly encouraged
All fish retained must comply with Queensland bag and possession limits
10. Protests & Committee Decisions
Any protests must be lodged with the Tournament Committee on the day of the incident
All decisions by the Tournament Committee are final regarding rules, scoring, prizes and trophies
11. Briefing & Communication
Pre-event briefing will be conducted at 6pm on 29 May 2026 on the Gold Coast Sports Fishing Club community Facebook page.
Weather updates, safety notices and rule clarifications will be issued via official channels

By entering the tournament, competitors acknowledge they participate at their own risk
The Tournament Committee reserves the right to amend rules, boundaries or conditions if required for safety, weather or operational reasons
